A Merry Christmas Chandelier

A while back I was out walking my dog and found a chandelier dumped on the side of the road.

What an awesomely unexpected find!  I was looking for a Christmas centerpiece for my dining room table and I decided this was it.

Some white paint, a few holiday ribbons, and festive candles truly makes this a funky junky find!

I have a couple other projects I'm hoping to finish before the end of the year. I'll be sure to post the before & afters shortly.  Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!

Tea Party Table

Here is a small end table/night stand just screaming for a makeover.

A little paint goes a long way.

I painted the end table cream with pink stripes and added green gem knobs that I picked up at Michael's on clearance for $.30/each.

A Funky Junk Find turned Into A Quick Fifty

I went to look at this free piece last week.  I thought it was solid wood and glass.  However the lady selling it mistook laminate for solid wood.  Since I was already there I decided to take it.  I brought it home, listed it on CL, and made a quick $50.  Not too shabby!  You would be surprised how much free stuff is available.  If you have a passion to restore or even just looking to make some extra cash the opportunity is out there.

Goodness Gracious Green!

I grabbed this free funky find off Craigslist a couple weeks ago. It would have been cute if the paint would stay on it.  Every time something touches it the paint chips off.  Should have primed it first!

I picked up a really cool can of oops paint (kelly green) for less than $5 back in the summer. Since the color is so bright and bold I needed to wait for just the right piece.

This is an Ikea piece so it's super light but sturdy.  I didn't want to distress it since it's not vintage.  I left the knobs as they are since it gave the dresser the perfect touch.  I could see this as a traditional dresser or a TV stand in a kids playroom or a bold room.

Desk Drawer Transformation

I picked up these two 'Hamilton' desk drawers at a flea market a few weeks ago for $1 each.  I knew immediately what I wanted to do with them!

A good cleaning, some cork, and a piece or two of fabric make these desk drawers into an awesome pair of organizational  must haves!

I hope you all are enjoying this fabulous autumn day!

Shabby Chic Candle Holders

I received a pair of candle holders a while back.  I wanted to give them an makeover to go with the distressed candelabra I did a while back. I'll add them both to my living room once I get my house back in some sort of working order. The good news is the new couches I ordered will arrive in less than one week!  Woo hoo!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Country Chic Chairs

I can't find my before picture of the chairs.  I guess I forgot to snap a couple pictures when I picked these goodies up at the Good Will last week.  They were painted white with a Navajo Indian print on the seat cushions.  The white paint was peeling off because the last owner didn't sand down the glossy finish before painting over. I guess I could have used some Binz primer to seal over the existing paint but I stripped them instead.
I purchased the chairs for $6 each and applied some 'oops' paint ($.50) and reupholstered the seat cushions with a great pattern ($2).  I now have a set of chairs in my sunroom/office that cost a whopping $14.50.  Can't beat that price!

Busy Bee

I've been working really hard to get my living room ready for the wood burning stove.

Couches sold ...check
Room painted...check  (painted toasted scone with super white trim. Looks amazing)
Stove installed...CHECK

New couches are scheduled to be delivered on October 22.  On the agenda this week...curtains and the TV all mount. The super cool wood toolbox to the left .... $10 at a barn sale!  Aside from the stove I've been able to pay for everything from my funky.junky.furniture sales.  How totally cool is that??

Once I have everything in place I'll show off the final pics!
While I'm not really good at multi-tasking I was working on another project this week as well.  For those of you who have been to my house know that the recliner from the living room has been in the den for quite some time.  Since we're getting a new couch for the den OUT GOES the recliner.  It will be placed back with it's set in the living room ASAP.  However in order for that to happen I needed to take down the closet.

This project would have been a lot easier if the guy had used wood screws instead of nails.  That is all I'm going to say about this particular project.  I'm pretty much up for any home renovations with the exception of going on the main roof and fooling around with the electricity.  So I need to have an electrician take down the wires before I can remove the last two flimsy pieces of wainscoating.

Once that's done I'll need to do some touch up painting and some slight ceiling repair and the room will be done.  I'll get an updated picture once it's complete.

I also did get a chance to pick up two really cute wood chairs at Goodwill that I'll be transforming for my home office.  Can't wait to get started but it might not happen until later in the week.  Stay tuned....

Funky Finds

So I mentioned in my last blog how I was able to score some really great finds last weekend. You saw my transformation of the dry sink the other day.   Here are some of the other items I picked up:

Dry Sink Makeover!

This weekend I scored major furniture finds!  I got a bunch of pieces for free.  I picked up a dry sink, a pair of captain's chairs and a dresser.  The guy was nice enough to throw in a cute little lamp and an old wash basin.

First piece to tackle was the dry sink. Nice piece but too dark for my style and I hate gold knobs.

Some leftover 'oops' paint and very, very light distressing around the edges gave this dry sink a brand new look.  Goodbye gold knobs...hello fresh white.

The wash basin is cream with pastel color flowers.  It accents the dry sink nicely.  This piece would like nice in a bathroom, kitchen, or large foyer or entryway

Awesome Candle Holder

Earlier this week I was at the Goodwill store and I came across a pair of  'Illuminations' wooden candle holders.  My camera makes them look brassy - but each of them are a dark brown wood. The smaller one had the original price sticker of $14.95 and the larger at $17.95.  GW had them listed at $3 for the PAIR!

Since I really don't care for dark wood  gave them a little paint and some really cute candles...

I found these great soy candles at Marshall's on clearance.  They have a slight Cinnamon scent and I thought they would make a great addition to the candle holders.

Add a little autumn note card and it makes the perfect birthday or hostess gift!
